The United States is in the midst of a drug epidemic that it has been battling for years. Over the last decade, drug related overdose deaths have consistently increased challenging the federal and state governments to seek new and inventive ways to battle addiction. However, the COVID-19 pandemic challenged many federal, state, and local governments to rethink how they handle substance use disorders and addiction.
For the 12-month time frame ending in October 2020, 88,990 reported overdose deaths occurred in the United States, however due to incomplete data, the estimated deaths are closer to 92,000. This number nearly doubles the total number of overdose deaths in 2015 and is an increase of nearly 20,000 lives from the same time period of October 2018-2019.
Tennessee is ranked 8th in the country for overdose related deaths according to the 2020 data. The same study indicates that Tennessee teens are nearly three times as likely to be offered or sold drugs on school property and tied for 3rd in the number of opioid prescriptions per 100,000 people.
The Tennessee Government page indicated that in 2020, 5,029,476 opioid pain prescriptions were written. While this number includes individuals who never abuse their pain medication, CDC reporting indicates that over 6% of individuals 12 and up have reported misusing their medication in the last year. That is equal to over 300,000 individuals in TN.
With this risk in mind, Tennessee also revealed that in 2019 there were 7,240 overdoses that resulted in hospital stays and 2,089 overdoses that resulted in death. To analyze this data further and target their at-risk categories, Tennessee’s analysis indicates that while women are only marginally more likely to be hospitalized than men, that is only because men are much more likely to have an overdose resulting in death. The government’s assessment also revealed that White Tennesseans are 5 times more likely to have an overdose than Black and other ethnicities combined.
But the state’s problem isn’t happening elsewhere. It’s happening in Sumner County and Hendersonville. It’s in our neighborhoods; our schools.
In 2019, Sumner County experienced 49 overdose fatalities and 230 overdoses with hospital stays. That accounts for nearly 3% of the state’s total overdoses from a county with a population of 191,000 people.
Sumner County Sheriff’s Department has been actively fighting the drug trade in TN as well. With 353 drug violations, an increase of 3.5% for the year, TN’s biggest concerns are marijuana, meth, and narcotics. Over 80% of all arrests are for possession or concealing illegal drugs, and only 8% are for intent to distribute.
But that’s not all; the Hendersonville Police Department had 444 drug and narcotics violations in 2019. Nearly 96% of those arrests were for possession and over 61% of the total arrests were for marijuana.
However, those who need help in Tennessee have it available to them. Tennessee is ranked in the top 10 states in the country for alcohol and drug rehabs and drug health issues. Spending approximately 2 billion dollars annually on substance abuse, the Tennessee state government receives federal funding and requires county level government to support health care initiatives for those struggling with addiction.

Alcohol and drug rehab in Hendersonville, TN is available to those who need it. But what should you look for when selecting a Hendersonville, TN drug rehab?
It is important to consider several key factors when selecting an addiction treatment center in Hendersonville, TN. These include things like location and price, programs, and type of facility. Determining what is necessary for your recovery could be the difference between sobriety and relapse.
When looking at location and price, you should aim for the best that you can reasonably afford. This is because you want a facility that you feel comfortable in and can see yourself recovering 30-90 days in. In most cases, both public rehabilitation and private treatment centers will accept some form of insurance.
With location there are two schools of thought. The first is to remove yourself from the toxic environment that led to your addiction by travelling as far as you can from the situation, recovering, and then returning (if you have to) stronger and more mentally healthy. The second option is to attend rehabilitation close to home. By remaining in your local environment, it is thought that you are familiar with the constant stressors and are able to address them head on. Neither way is preferable or scientifically proven to be better, so you must determine for yourself where you will go.
The next big consideration when selecting a drug and alcohol rehab in Hendersonville, TN is what kind of program you are looking for. There are a variety of treatment centers that offer a multitude of options. Can you participate in a residential inpatient program or do you need to participate in an outpatient program? Are you looking for a religious rehabilitation experience? Do you need additional support with another mental illness that is impacting your addiction? Are you looking for a location with traditional or alternative therapies? Do you think that creative therapies like art and music therapy could support you in the transition to a sober lifestyle? By considering these factors, you can look for and identify the type of program that would be most beneficial to your success.
When considering Hendersonville, TN drug rehab, you should consider the type of facility you are looking for. Addiction treatment centers range from public hospital treatment to boutique and luxury villa treatment facilities. While this typically impacts the price, the amenities and therapies available at different facilities can impact your treatment.
Lastly, when considering the type of Hendersonville, TN alcohol rehab facility you are looking for, you can also determine if you think, based on your own personal wellbeing, if you would do better in a single-gender treatment center or a co-ed treatment center. This should be based on personal choice, as neither are medically “better” than the other.
By considering these factors in choosing a drug and alcohol rehab near Hendersonville, TN, you can make the best choice for your recovery. By researching or calling for support, you can select an addiction treatment center that meets your specific needs.
